| As a prelude to my journey home, on the weekend of March 21-22 I went disc golfing in four parks in the area. I played the course at George Ward park in Birmingham and the one in Trussville on Saturday. On Sunday, I went to Tuscaloosa and Montevallo. 72 holes in all. Not too bad for me. I got back to my temporary home about 8:30 PM. I returned to George Ward park this past Sunday to play a farewell game and say good-bye to the PDGA pro Tom Monroe (There is a Wikipedia article about Tom). Alas, Tom was not there, but I had a decent round of disc golf. My favorite disc golf park in the Cincinnati area is Harbin Park in Fairfield. Can't wait to get back and see if I can par that long one.
My pick-up truck is always tuned to one of the stations that play the Rick and Bubba Show. Guess I will only be able to listen to them on the online WZZK site. I don't think they have their sindicated show on any stations in Cincinnati, yet. Rats!
Take care, and yes, I like Chicken Fried.

| I have been in Alabama since November 5th. Kind of like it down here. Working on another project away from home. We had tornadoes in the area last night. Steph is going to Dollywood in 2 days with some friends. Dan will be taking exams next week. Gin and I are keeping things alive by talking over the phone each night. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. Pray for our service men and women. Pray for our leaders. Take care. Steve Here is one of the pictures Dan made up for his paintball team Cincinnati Vendetta. The guy in the pic is Dan. I may have taken the original of him, but he used GIMP to get this posterlike pic.
And oh yeah, there are a lot of disc golfers that go to the course over in Birmingham. Tom Monroe (PDGA #033) is over there every weekend. See the write-up about Tom in Wikipedia. | | |
| I have been in Alabama for almost a week working on a project down here for a company that is expanding. I kind of like it down here. The people so far have been very friendly and helpful. The weather has been pretty good. I think it has rained only one day. Ha. My daughter told me yesterday that there were snow flurries in East Lansing, MI. And they have an exellent football team at 'Bama this year. I went to the highest point in Alabama on Saturday. Wow, I thought there would be at least a trail of a half mile or more to get to the highest point but no there is parking right outside the tower where you can go and take a scenic view of the surrounding area. I have Ginger's little camera, but I havent downloaded the images yet. I went to a local church yesterday and it was rather nice and the people were friendly. This next Saturday, I will try to find one of two disc golf courses within the area. Disc golf is not as big down here yet as it is in southwestern Ohio where there are lots of free disc golf courses. Dan had his appointment with the Opthamalogist today. The doctor released him so that he is able to play soccer. I think they have a tournament this month sometime in the NCCAA. They are out of the tournament play for the NAIA. I was glad that he is okay and now he will be able to train with the team over the winter and spring also. Gin seems to be shaking her cold. She is not so squeaky when I talk to her on the phone. I miss her. Take care, folks. | | |
| Dan is done for the season. He took a ball into his eye on a free kick during the game with Indiana Weslyan. He was standing in the wall ten yards from the kicker and when the low kick was made, he didn't have the time to get his head positioned to make a proper header. Anyway, he will be okay, but as a precaution the opthamalogist told him to not take part in any strenuous exercise for a month. There is a bruise to his eye and the cornea was abraded. The doctor did not want to take a chance that the retina could tear away from the back of the eye so that is why he told him to take a month off. This was the last game of the regular season anyway and they probably wont go past the first round in tournament play unless they have a really good game. He should heal up okay and start conditioning, playing futsol, and playing indoor soccer after he rests for a month. He has done well this year and I am glad I got to see him play.
The picture below shows him after the game before we took him to the emergency room at the local hospital. They performed a CAT scan and found no broken bones. They did spot the abraded cornea. The visit to the opthamalogist was on Monday.
This picture is of Dan and his girlfriend Elise. Elise is a junior at Anderson University.
Take care. -Steve
